Navigating menopause and your career

Hello ,

It makes me angry that accomplished, intelligent women can be sidelined in their careers due to a natural biological process. We are losing an immense amount of talent due to misunderstood and mismanaged perimenopause and menopause symptoms.

In this week’s Wisepreneurs podcast episode, I speak with the formidable Amy Alkon, who is leading a charge to replace medical myths with scientific truth and empowering women to take agency over their health and careers.

And while the focus is on women, I encourage men to listen in, as the principles of taking charge of your own health data are universal.

Guest Spotlight

Amy Alkon is an award-winning investigative science writer whose new book, Going Menopostal, translates eight years of deep research into an actionable guide. We discuss the massive gap between medical practice and scientific evidence, and why so many doctors are unequipped to help.

This conversation is provides vital information on maintaining your cognitive vitality and giving you the tools to demand the care you deserve. .

As Amy states,

“So many women, these vital, important, powerful, accomplished professional women, they lose their power at work, you know, to function even, and they don't know it's perimenopause… They think they're lazy or drunk or, you know, something's wrong with them.”

Micro-Sprint: Take Agency

Amy provides a framework for collecting your own medical data.

Here are three steps to take agency over your health:

  • Note the new onset of symptoms like sleep disruption, shorter menstrual cycles (25 or fewer days), or notable weight gain without lifestyle changes.
  • Investigate Quantitative Basal Temperature Testing to understand if your body is producing progesterone—a key factor in perimenopause.
  • Go to your doctor with this data to have a conversation based on evidence, not just symptoms.

The takeaway from Amy is empowering and direct: because menopause is such a critical, life-altering health issue for women, you must take agency and seek the personalised care you deserve.

Listen to the episode #74 of the Wisepreneurs Podcast with Amy Alkon out this Friday.
